Advances in prostate cancer care have expanded treatment possibilities—but they have also made care decisions more complex. Today, patients may require a combination of approaches that may include surgery, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and hormone-based treatments. It is not uncommon for individuals to work with multiple specialists throughout their care journey.
At Urology Associates of Charleston, we recognize the challenges patients face when navigating prostate cancer treatment. To simplify and strengthen this process, we established our Advanced Prostate Center of Excellence.
From diagnosis forward, our dedicated team of physicians, advanced practice providers, and nurses partner closely with each patient to develop a customized treatment plan tailored to their unique condition and goals. Our approach is grounded in evidence-based medicine and aligned with nationally recognized guidelines from the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and the American Urological Association (AUA), ensuring access to the most advanced and effective therapies available.
Comprehensive prostate cancer care extends beyond cancer treatment alone. Our team also addresses related health concerns that may arise during treatment, including bone and sexual health. Through our Bone Health Clinic, we proactively monitor and manage bone strength—an essential component of care, as prostate cancer and its treatments can significantly impact skeletal health.
We understand that prostate cancer treatment is not a single moment, but a long-term journey. Our team is committed to walking alongside our patients every step of the way, providing continuity, expertise, and support throughout their care.

Testosterone plays a key role in men’s health — influencing libido, energy, muscle strength, mood, and more. When testosterone levels decline, men may experience:
Reduced sex drive
Fatigue
Mood changes
Loss of muscle mass
Hair thinning
Weight gain
We evaluate testosterone levels through testing and work with you to design a hormone therapy plan when appropriate. Treatment options may include gels, injections, or implanted pellets, along with lifestyle recommendations to support long-term hormone health.
Peyronie’s disease is a condition where fibrous scar tissue forms inside the penis — causing curvature, discomfort, or difficulty with sexual activity. It doesn’t always improve on its own, and many men benefit from early evaluation and care.
Observation – your urologist may recommend watchful waiting if your penile curvature is mild and you still have normal sexual function. If you start to experience pain or other problems, you may need treatment to eradicate the plaque or surgery to straighten your penis.
Targeted in-office injections – XiaFlex® is a medication that your urologist injects directly into the penis. When combined with specific stretching and straightening exercises, this medication effectively destroys the plaque in your penis. You need one to four XiaFlex® treatment cycles, spaced six weeks apart, with each cycle including two injections. For many men with Peyronie’s disease, XiaFlex® is a successful treatment.
Surgical options – if needed, your urologist can place a penile implant that straightens your penis and allows for normal sexual function. This is an outpatient procedure that takes less than an hour.
Our team helps you understand your options and choose the best path for comfort and function.
Talking about sexual or reproductive health can feel personal, even uncomfortable at times. Our providers strive to create a trusting, judgment-free environment where you can get answers and make informed decisions about your care.
No two men are the same — and neither are their health journeys. Whether you’re seeking evaluation for a new concern or looking for ongoing care, our team is dedicated to helping you live your healthiest, most confident life.
